1. Explore the Inner Harbor
The Inner Harbor is a hub for visitors and locals alike. It’s one of the oldest seaports in the country and it’s still incredibly lively today. There is so much to do in this spot from taking a boat through the harbor, checking out one of the museums, or just walking along the water’s edge.
You can get great views of the harbor from the Observation Deck or up in a hotel. I love walking around the harbor at sunset time and taking in the beautiful scene.
2. Visit Camden Yards
I have been an Orioles fan since before I could walk. My family has grown up going to games and have held season tickets. I say this without bias, Camden Yards is one of the most beautiful baseball parks in the US.
One of the best features of the park is Eutaw Street, where you can view the game, check out one of the restaurants and shops, or admire the various home run plaques. If you visit when the players are off, you can still take a guided tour of the stadium.
3. Journey Through the National Aquarium
Visiting the Aquarium can be a bit pricey, but it’s definitely worth it as it is constantly on the list of best aquariums in the country. When you go there you can see cool exhibits on Jellyfish, explore different water habitats, and pet stingrays.
I have been many times and every time that I go I find something new to see. If you’re looking for a cool place to hold an event, then look no further. My cousin got married here overlooking the harbor and right as they kissed fireworks went off! The aquarium has so much to offer and it’s a wonderful place to spend time.
4. Hit the Town
Heading to Baltimore for a fun weekend with friends? There are tons of bars that will guarantee a good time. My husband lived in Baltimore for a few years and we spent many weekends heading to Fells Point or Federal Hill for the night.
These areas have plenty of bars and late night foods to enjoy. Go to One Star to shotgun a Twisted Tea, Pickles Pub to pregame a ball game, or Sandlot to play games and enjoy a drink outdoors. There are also great events in the city like Preakness, Moonrise Music Festival or various bar crawls.
5. Walk Through the Parks
Although most people think of the busy harbor area when they think of Baltimore, there are lots of wonderful public parks. Many of these parks date back to the 1800s when cities were focused on creating more green space for their citizens.
Travel to Druid Hill Park, the oldest park in the city, to relax and get away from the noise. Go to Federal Hill Park where you can sit on the hill as you take in a wonderful view of the harbor. Explore the large Patterson Park, which has tons of green areas for recreation, tennis courts, an ice skating rink, and concerts in the pagoda at times. Wander through Patapsco Park where there are lots of hiking trails along the river. There are plenty of parks to spend some relaxing time.
6. Eat Delicious Food
Yelp recently named Baltimore as one of its top 10 food cities in the US. Over the past few years there has been a lot of creation and innovation in the local restaurant scene.
Go to Little Italy to get quality Italian food, check out one of the new local food halls at Cross St or Broadway Market, or eat at one of the best restaurants in the city, Woodberry Kitchen. There are plenty of amazing spots, just look at Baltimore Magazine’s list of best restaurants to find one. Don’t leave the city without trying a crab cake or one of the local Berger cookies.
7. Stroll Through a Museum
Baltimore has a vibrant arts scene with a plethora of museums, Maryland Institute College of Art, and thriving theaters. The museums in the city are world class. Choose from the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Baltimore Museum of Industry, the American Visionary Museum, or the Walters Art Museum. If you have kids, there are lots of family friendly options including the Maryland Science Center and Port Discovery Children’s Museum. As a child, Port Discovery was my favorite place, and I will never forget climbing through the huge jungle gym.
8. Learn About Alcohol Production
The recent openings of both Guinness Brewery and Sagamore Whiskey Distillery have brought many new visitors to Baltimore. However, the city has plenty of options to explore and learn about alcohol production.
There are many local beer breweries, distilleries, and an urban winery where you can spend the day learning about the production process and tasting different libations. It’s a fun way to hang with a group of friends and try something new!
