The Grand Tetons are hands-down my favorite place in the entire country 😍. After five visits (and counting!), I’ve learned exactly where to stay, from serene campgrounds to stylish lodges.
So, I’ve written this guide with the best accommodation options in and near the Tetons. Read further for the lowdown on the campgrounds and hotels for your trip!

Understanding Grand Teton National Park Geography
Grand Teton National Park is located in the Northwest corner of Wyoming, just south of Yellowstone National Park.
Grand Teton is compact compared to Yellowstone, but the geography still matters when choosing where to stay.
The park runs north to south along Teton Park Road, with most campgrounds and lodges on or just off this main road. Jackson is located just south of the Moose entrance, making it a popular base for visitors.
Campgrounds in Grand Teton National Park
If you want to be in the action of everything, then camping is the ultimate way to experience the Tetons. Pitch a tent, bring your RV, and enjoy the serene settings.
All 6 campgrounds in the park require reservations in advance on recreation.gov.
Camp in the park, enjoy the stars, watch the sunset, and see wildlife. There’s truly nothing better.
Colter Bay
Colter Bay is the largest campground in the Tetons with 324 RV and tent sites. It’s in the Northern end of the park and it sits on the gorgeous Colter Bay.
We stayed here for a couple nights on one trip and it was a great way to stay in the park, but it’s a little farther from many of the central locations.
It’s ideal for families that want to enjoy boating or recreating on the bay! 🚤
Gros Venture
Gros Venture is another large campground that sits within the southern part of the park, near Mormon Row and the large herds of elk that roam.
We stayed here on our first trip to the Tetons with our family. It was perfect for our first visit, right in the heart of everything and close to Jackson!

Signal Mountain
Choose to stay at Signal Mountain and you’ll be right near Jackson Lake with stunning views over Mount Moran.
You’ll be surrounded by a beautiful pine forest. 🌳 It’s a cozy place to stay if you want to be surrounded by trees with incredible views overhead.
Signal Mountain campground is the spot to find peace and serenity. ☺️
Jenny Lake
Jenny Lake is one of the most popular campgrounds in the park, so if you want to stay here try to book early!
This beautiful campground is right off of the Jenny Lake area, which is arguably one of the most scenic places in the entire park. You can go swimming, spend the day hiking, or take a boat tour from this campground.

Free Camping near Grand Teton
As a person who lived in a van for three years, one of my favorite things is the amazing free camping that surrounds the park! 🏕️
Free camping or dispersed camping is where you camp on public lands. There are many spots in the National Forest just outside of the park’s boundaries.
In my opinion, many of the free spots are even better than the established campgrounds as long as you don’t mind winging things. Because these spots are free, you can’t make reservations in advance.

Important Dispersed Camping Guidelines
- 🗑️ Pack in, pack out: Leave no trace.
- 🏕️ Stick to durable surfaces: Camp in designated or already-disturbed spots.
- 🔥 Fires only in established rings.
- 🐻 Be bear-safe: Store food in bear-proof containers away from your tent.
- 🕒 Stay limits: Most spots allow up to 14 days, but some (like Spread Creek) are shorter.
Shadow Mountain
By far my favorite place to stay in Grand Teton National Park, or just outside it I guess.
This dispersed campground is located just outside of the park’s boundaries in Bridger Teton National Forest. But, it has some of the most spectacular views over the Tetons that you’ll see as you make your way up the mountain.
During the summer, you’ll need to get there early to snag a spot and claim it!
Spread Creek
Spread Creek is located to the East of the Tetons on a flowing creek. There are a number of spots to choose from here.
It’s a nice, secluded spot, but you can only stay there for 5 nights. So, if you plan on staying longer, you may want to find a different location.
Lodging in Grand Teton National Park
If you want to be located in the park but camping isn’t your thing, don’t worry. There are plenty of superb lodges to choose from in the Tetons!
All lodges are run by the park and offer accommodations ranging from rustic cabin to pristine hotel. So, there’s truly something for everyone.
While there are a plethora of options, they tend to book early for the summer season. So, make sure to plan in advance to get your spot for your vacation!

Jackson, Wyoming is one of the premiere mountain towns in the entire country. It’s got charm, beauty, and endless possibilities.
You’ll want to stay in Jackson if you’d prefer being in a town and close to delicious restaurants and fun shops. Jackson and the greater Jackson Hole area have no shortage of fantastic hotels.
